Efficient and Practical Paintwork: PaintJet Opens the Door for Better Commercial Painting
April 8, 2022PaintJet is a startup focused on using robotics to change the way commercial painting is done. PaintJet’s first product is mobile lift attachment which is used in conjunction with a traditional airless sprayer to increase the square foot per hour on project. Recently we completed a large exterior commercial project using our patent pending technology.
This project was completed for a property management as a new tenant was moving into an old facility. The building was an industrial space that was sorely in need of a refresh. It consisted of 75 thousand square feet of exterior previously coated CMU. The average height was 30 feet, and it required two genie 60 foot aerial man lifts. With traditional painting methods, the project would take 6 weeks to complete, cost $30,000 in labor and $15,000 dollars in paint.
Using the PaintJet system, the team was able to complete this project with very impressive results. They saved $8,000 in labor costs, reduced paint consumption by $4,000 and completed the projects 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Another key use of the technology is that they were able to socially distance effectively by spreading out the team, avoiding the clustering of 2-3 painters in the lift basket. Currently PaintJet is operated with just one man in the lift and one on the ground, however future versions aim to integrate with lift technology to have just one operator.
The idea behind PaintJet is not to replace painters, but instead to make them into super – painters by giving them an in-the-field advantage. So far PaintJet seems to be on to something as they have booked another $200 thousand in pre orders and are in the process of raising their seed round funding. They have large plans in rolling out commercial painting capabilities across the US using their tech enabled painting contractors.
